Kittery native and fried clam savant Bob Kraft opened one of the longest surviving clam shacks anywhere in 1956. The Kittery original still serves throngs who make pilgrimage there each summer (and winter) for Bob’s unique gourmand’s approach to classic Maine road (sea)food. After 62 years of continuous joy in Kittery we decided it was time to open an outpost in Maine’s largest city and epicenter of everything culinary in Maine. The iconic location on the corner of Cumberland and Washington Streets came available and it seemed destined to be a Bob’s. We are proud to be a Maine institution in two great southern Maine towns, Kittery and Portland.
Perhaps the thing we value most is having a happy and motivated staff. Our employees are some of the most talented, dedicated folks around. We respond with profit sharing, open financial reporting—everyone knows how we are doing financially—and most importantly, the whole staff is involved in making important decisions about how to keep Bob's great.
